Professor Andreas Maier elected Chairman of the Board of the Profile Center Medical Engineering at FAU

We are pleased to announce that Professor Dr.-Ing. Andreas Maier, head of the Pattern Recognition Lab at the Department of Computer Science, has been elected Chairman of the Board of the Profile Center Medical Engineering (FAU MT) at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). The Profile Center, formerly known as ZiMT, serves as the university’s central hub for interdisciplinary medical engineering research and collaboration.
This prestigious appointment underscores Professor Maier’s longstanding commitment to advancing medical technology through cutting-edge research in pattern recognition, machine learning, and computer vision. As chairman, he will play a central role in shaping the strategic direction of FAU MT, fostering cooperation across disciplines and institutions, and supporting the translation of technological innovations into clinical practice.
The Profile Center Medical Engineering (medicalengineering.fau.de) brings together over 150 researchers and faculty members from across the university and the University Hospital Erlangen. It serves as a dynamic platform to coordinate research activities, connect stakeholders from academia, medicine, and industry, and support major collaborative initiatives in medical technology. By facilitating cross-disciplinary exchange and promoting excellence in research and innovation, FAU MT strengthens FAU’s position as one of Europe’s leading institutions in the field.
In his new role, Professor Maier will work closely with researchers from engineering, medicine, and the humanities to further develop the Profile Center’s mission.
