On September 16, 2024, the Pattern Recognition Lab (PRL) attended the OptiHyd project kick-off meeting in Schrobenhausen, alongside Diehl Metering GmbH and Stadtwerke Schrobenhausen, the project’s partners. As part of the “Smart City Initiative” supported by the State Ministry of Economy, this project aims to enhance the safety and quality of drinking water using modern technologies. Following a greeting speech by Roland Weigert, Member of the State Parliament, Schrobenhausen’s Mayor Harald Reisner gave the green light to replace old analog water consumption meters in the city with digital smart meters developed by Diehl Metering. By the end of the year, more than 500 smart meters will be transmitting data via radio technology. Dr. Siming Bayer, the project lead from PRL, explained that a hybrid method involving both AI and numerical simulations will use the data to detect leakages and monitor water quality. With the valued collaboration of Diehl Metering and the Association of German Engineers (VDI/VDE), OptiHyd is set to transform Schrobenhausen into a “Smart City” by October 2026.
