Taukadial Challenge Winners at Interspeech 2024
Our speech and language processing team won both tasks from the Taukadial Challenge1 at Interspeech 2024. The challenge focused on detecting Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) through advanced speech and language processing techniques, particularly analyzing speech data in cross-lingual settings—Chinese and English.
The team led by our PostDoc Paula Pérez outperformed in the MCI classification and the regression task for predicting cognitive decline using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores. To secure the win, the speech team first had to have their innovative research accepted for full conference publication and then outperform their competitors in delivering the highest performance.
Their achievement highlights the vital role speech technology can play in early diagnosis and intervention for cognitive decline across diverse linguistic populations.
