Erlangen, Germany – The Department of Computer Science at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is thrilled to announce the successful hosting of the KI4D4E (Artificial Intelligence for 4D rEconstruction) Workshop, which took place in Erlangen on February 27th and 28th, 2024. This event brought together leading experts in artificial intelligence and synchrotron imaging from across Germany to share insights, advancements, and collaborative opportunities in the field.

The workshop kicked off at the FAU’s Martensstr. 3 location, Room 00.151, with participants diving into an afternoon filled with insightful presentations. Prof. Andreas Maier, alongside colleagues Yipeng Sun and Prof. Sven Simon, welcomed attendees, setting the stage for a series of status updates from prominent research institutions including Hereon, KIT, FZJ, Passau, HZB, and Voxie.

Highlights included cutting-edge discussions on AI applications in medical imaging, such as Differentiable Rigid Motion Compensation for CT Reconstruction by Mareike Thies and the Trainable Clack-Defrise Algorithm by Chengze Ye, both representing FAU’s AI reconstruction efforts.

The second day of the workshop continued the momentum with further status updates, discussions about future workshops, and groundbreaking presentations on AI technologies like Vision Transformers and Metric-guided Transformers by Yipeng Sun and Badhan Das, respectively. The workshop concluded with engaging discussions on trajectory optimization for CT, privacy-enhancing image sampling, and deep learning approaches to CT field of view extension, showcasing FAU’s contributions to AI research.

The KI4D4E Workshop not only facilitated knowledge exchange among Germany’s synchrotron imaging researchers but also laid the groundwork for future collaborations and innovations in engineering and artificial intelligence. FAU is proud to have been at the center of such an enriching event and looks forward to continuing its role as a hub for AI research and development.
