We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Andreas Maier, head of the Pattern Recognition Lab at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), has delivered a distinguished lecture at the 4th International Research Seminar hosted by the Graduate School of Information Science at the University of Hyogo. The seminar, held on August 28, 2024, featured Prof. Maier’s insightful talk titled “Known Operator Learning and Hybrid Machine Learning in Medical Imaging – A Review of the Past, the Present, and the Future.”

In his lecture, Prof. Maier provided a comprehensive review of the evolution and current trends in hybrid machine learning within the domain of medical imaging. He traced the development of machine learning approaches over recent decades, highlighting the competition between general and specialized techniques. Prof. Maier emphasized the growing prominence of hybrid models, particularly those leveraging known operator learning, which are increasingly influencing a wide array of applications in medical imaging and image analysis.

The talk also explored the future potential of hybrid modeling, with a focus on meta-learning and other innovative domains that promise to push the boundaries of medical imaging technology further. Prof. Maier’s expertise and the depth of his research provided attendees with a rich perspective on the future directions of this critical field.

The Pattern Recognition Lab is honored to have participated in such a prestigious international seminar, furthering our commitment to advancing research and innovation in medical imaging and beyond.
