New PhD Student: Changhun Kim

Changhun Kim received his Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence from FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Seoul, Korea. He joined the Pattern Recognition Lab (PRL) in March 2025 as a Ph.D. student under the supervision of Dr.-Ing. Siming Bayer und Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Andreas Maier.
His research centers around providing AI-based techniques for automated congestion control and fault mangement in power grids, while also buidling a robust knowledge database that integrates and harmonizes heterogeneous power grid data from multiple sources.
His research belongs to the **GridAssist** project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) within the OptiNetD funding initiative. Working with the Chair of Electrical Energy Systems (LEES) led by Professor Johann Jäger at FAU and industry leaders such as Siemens AG (consortium leader), Energieversorgung Gera GmbH (EGG), LEW Verteilnetz GmbH (LVN), OPAL-RT Germany and the RWTH Aachen.
