The Pattern Recognition Lab (PRL) at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is pleased to announce its involvement in the GridAssist research project. Funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) under the OptiNetD initiative, the project commenced on 1 December 2024.

The PRL’s research will focus on the development of AI-driven solutions for automated congestion and fault management in power grids. A key objective is the development of AI-based assistance systems for network restoration and optimization. Researchers at the PRL will evaluate different AI approaches to ensure effective, interpretable and scalable solutions for automated decision making in power grids.

The PRL is working closely with the Chair of Electrical Energy Systems (LEES) at FAU, which provides expertise in machine learning and intelligent power protection systems. The project also includes industry leaders such as Siemens AG (consortium leader), Energieversorgung Gera GmbH (EGG), LEW Verteilnetz GmbH (LVN), OPAL-RT Germany and the RWTH Aachen.
